…Auf ihrem Album „Bochum Berlin“ (Umland) spielen St.Kirchhoff, Simon Camatta und DJ Illvibe mit Banjo, Drums, Turntable und Electronics eine Art urbane Folklore, die Sehnsucht und Fluchtimpuls vereint. Die stoischen Grooves des Trios klingen wie ein Äquivalent zur Tristesse und Uniformität des
Großstadtlebens. Mit feinem Humor und einem noch feineren Gespür für menschliche Urängste und – instinkte folgen die drei Musiker einem mechanisch anmutenden inneren Ablauf, der präzise eingestellt ist. Improvisation findet im Mikrobereichen statt. Wäre absurde Musik im positiven Sinne ein musikalisches Genre dann wäre das Handsome Couple mit DJ Illvibe wohl Hauptvertreter desselben.

… Und es funktioniert: Loops, Beats und Samples bilden die Basis, auf der sich der „Ocean of Sound“ entwickelt. Mal schwirren luftige Melodien, dann wieder schwere Grooves durch den Raum – minimal variiert, kurz vor dem Mantra. TripHop-Beats, unterstützt von krautigen Clustern und Samples aus dem Street-Life, dazwischen Melodien aus dem Exotica-Laden, psychedelische Licks und Patterns, selten frei metrisch, mitunter polyrhythmisch, aber immer passend. Man könnte dazu auch tanzen. Improvisiert wird dabei natürlich auch, in der Regel im Kollektiv. Die Samples von Illvibe sind mehr als Beiwerk. Der Einsatz ist so perfekt, dass man gar nicht glauben möchte, dass die drei erst zum zweiten Mal gemeinsam auf der Bühne stehen: Ping Pong Ping…

WESTZEIT
Schon im letzten Sommer fiel uns das…."hübsche Paar" sehr angenehm auf. Jetzt haben sie DJ Illvibe mit seinen Seeed-geprüften turntables eingeladen, ihren abstract/instrumental-HipHop (so nennen sie das selbst) im Rahmen einer kurzen Dland-Tour zu begleiten. Der Sohn der FreeJazz-Legende Alexander von Schlippenbach stimmt seine Plattenschleifen und scratches sehr fein auf das trockene Gerüst aus schmalen Banjo-Riffs und ziseliertem Schlagzeugspiel ab.
